An Impactful Tradition
As has been the tradition for the last five years, Barrier Breakers hosted our Annual Break Into Law Conference two weeks ago. This conference is all online and free to anyone who wants to attend. Since the start of the conference, it has come to be known as one of the biggest pre-law conferences in the country. This conference takes place virtually over three days. The biggest highlight of this conference is the multitude of speakers. The speakers all come from different backgrounds and help prepare students for every step in their law journey. It is an impactful conference and has helped thousands of students feel prepared and receive the resources they need to be successful in law school. This year, the conference had 793 attendees. This means that from our donors and sponsors 793 students were able to grow their confidence about law school. The impact this conference has on many of the students is hard to calculate. For some, it will be the biggest game changer of them all and it all starts with our donors and sponsors.
Education Since The Start
At the beginning of this month, our nation joined together to celebrate its 250th anniversary. Since its inception, the United States has been a nation rooted in education. In fact, 29 of the 55 Constitutional Convention delegates were university or college graduates. Many of the delegates who didn’t receive formal schooling had some form of studying at home. Since the signing of the Declaration of Independence, nearly 4,000 colleges have been created in America. This is an astonishing number which further highlights the important role education plays in America. Even 250 years later, education still remains an important part of our national identity. That is one of our biggest beliefs as a company. We believe that education has power and the ability to effect change. Our goal is to help students use education as a tool to experience upward economic mobility. In other words, help students experience more financial security, freedom, and peace of mind.
Continuing The Legacy
We hold the belief that education has formed who we are as a country, and we believe that that education should be accessible for everyone. This is why we specialize in helping low income and first generation students achieve their goals of reaching college. We help them go to college, go into a career pathway, and ultimately achieve economic mobility. We believe this is so important because while 54% of college students are first generation attendees, only 24% of that 54% end up graduating within 6 years. In addition to that students who are both first generation and low income had only an 11% graduation rate. We aim to change these numbers and help more of these students graduate and shape their future.
